Davis police investigate fraternity arson

On November 3, 2013, at approximately 12:58 PM, City of Davis Police Officers were called to a fraternity house at 642 Adams St. for an arson that occurred overnight.
It was reported that at approximately 01:00 AM, residents detected a strong smell of natural gas inside the house. Upon further examination, they discovered a deliberately set gas leak. Further examination also revealed there was a deliberate attempt to ignite a fire inside the residence, which could have ignited the gas. There were several residents inside the house at the time.
This incident was not reported to the Davis Police until this afternoon (Nov. 3). Officers and detectives are currently investigating this crime.
The intentions behind this crime are not yet known. The Davis Police Department would like all fraternity, sororities, and other student groups to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Extra patrol officers from both Davis and UC Davis police will be deployed tonight. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
